The Karwa Chauth fast holds special significance for married women. According to the Hindu calendar, this festival is observed on the *Chaturthi* (fourth day) of the *Krishna Paksha* (waning phase of the moon) in the month of *Kartik*. On this day, women observe a *nirjala* fast (a fast without water), praying for the long life of their husbands, love in their marital life, and the happiness and prosperity of their families. During the fast, Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, Karwa Mata, and the Moon God (*Chandra Dev*) are worshipped. Every tradition—from consuming *sargi* in the morning to breaking the fast at night by offering *arghya* (libation) to the moon—carries its own unique significance. This year, there are also questions regarding the presence of *Bhadra* (an inauspicious period) during Karwa Chauth. Let us look at the date of the fast, the auspicious timing for worship (*muhurta*), and the expected time of moonrise.

When will Karwa Chauth 2026 be observed?
According to the *Panchang* (Hindu calendar), the *Kartik Krishna Chaturthi* *tithi* in 2026 will begin at 1:06 AM on October 29 and conclude at 10:09 PM on the same day. Based on the *Udaya Tithi* (the *tithi* prevailing at sunrise) and the traditions associated with the festival, the Karwa Chauth fast will be observed on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
Will there be an influence of *Bhadra* on Karwa Chauth?
This year, *Bhadra* will not be present during the time of worship on Karwa Chauth. *Bhadra* is set to begin at 5:31 AM on October 28, 2026, and will conclude at 4:27 AM on October 29. Consequently, the tradition of *sargi* and other religious rituals throughout the day can be performed after *Bhadra* ends in the morning. There is also no risk of *Bhadra* interfering with the evening worship rituals.
According to religious beliefs, the *Bhadra Kaal* (the period governed by *Bhadra*) is not considered favorable for auspicious activities. Therefore, it is advised to avoid performing *manglik* (auspicious) rituals or starting new ventures during this period.
