Kharmas December 2025: According to पौराणिक beliefs, Kharmas is the period when auspicious activities are considered prohibited. However, worship, charity, and the purchase of essential items are permitted during this time. According to the Panchang (Hindu calendar), on December 15, 2025, at 10:19 PM, the Sun will move from Scorpio to Sagittarius, the sign ruled by Jupiter, and this position will remain until January 14, 2026. Kharmas will end as soon as the Sun enters Capricorn. During this one-month period, auspicious ceremonies such as weddings, housewarmings, and head-shaving ceremonies are suspended. Chanting, charity, bathing in rivers, and pilgrimages are considered auspicious during Kharmas. So, let's find out what to do and what not to do during Kharmas.

What to do during Kharmas

Reading religious scriptures is considered extremely fruitful during Kharmas. Regular study of the Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita, or Shiva Purana purifies both the mind and life. It is recommended to complete the reading of at least one complete scripture during this month, which brings both auspicious results and guidance in life.

Charity also holds special significance during this period. Charity given with devotion provides merit equivalent to bathing in a holy river. Serving the needy, saints, and helpless people brings religious benefits as well as inner satisfaction. Offering kumkum, oil, ghee, flowers, lamps, incense, etc., at temples is considered auspicious.

Auspicious timings are not considered during this period because the Sun God, who is considered a direct deity, becomes somewhat weaker while residing in the sign of his guru, Jupiter. The reduced influence of both the Sun and Jupiter is believed to create a lack of favorable energy for auspicious activities.

Sun Worship

Sun worship is beneficial during Kharmas. After bathing in the morning, you can offer water to the Sun from a copper vessel and chant the mantra "Om Suryaya Namah." On January 14, 2026, with the Sun's entry into Capricorn, Kharmas will end with Makar Sankranti, and auspicious activities can be resumed.
