Kharmas 2026: The sound of the clarinets will cease, auspicious work will be halted! Kharmas begins on this day.

Kharmas holds special significance in Sanatan Dharma. According to the Hindu calendar, all auspicious and inauspicious events are completely halted during the Kharmas period. This year, Kharmas will begin in March. After this, auspicious events like marriage, Upanayana ceremony, tonsure, house construction, and Griha Pravesh will be prohibited for the next month. Find out when it ends and how Kharmas begins.

When and how does Kharmas begin?

Pandit Manotpal Jha, a renowned astrologer at Maharaj Ji Hata in Purnia, explained that according to astrology, when the Sun enters the zodiac signs of Jupiter (Sagittarius or Pisces), that period is called Kharmas. Because the Sun is engaged in the service of his guru, Jupiter, his influence diminishes. Auspicious events performed during this time do not yield their full results. Kharmas occurs twice a year: once when the Sun enters Sagittarius and again when it enters Pisces.

Pisces Sankranti and the Time Difference
Pandit Jha explained that this year, the Sun God is entering the Pisces zodiac sign. This moment of Pisces Sankranti will occur between 3:38 am and 5:30 pm on March 14, 2026. He clarified that due to differences in latitude and longitude, sunrise times vary from place to place. Therefore, slight time differences may be observed in the calendars of different regions.

Calculations According to the Mithila Calendar
According to the Hindu Mithila Calendar, Kharmas officially begins on March 15, 2026. During this period, no rituals or ceremonies will be performed for a month. However, Pandit Jha also clarified that there is no restriction on regular worship and fasting during Kharmas. Chaitra Navratri will begin during this period. Holy festivals like Chaitra Chhath will also be celebrated. Religious rituals can be performed, but auspicious events related to personal happiness and prosperity will not be performed.

When will Kharmas end?
Kharmas will end on April 13, 2026, at approximately 12:00 noon, when the Sun leaves Pisces and enters Aries. From April 14, the sound of trumpets will resonate. All stalled auspicious events will resume. According to astrological beliefs, those who violate the rules of Kharmas and perform auspicious tasks face adverse effects from the planets, increasing negativity in their lives.
