Due to today's unhealthy lifestyles, poor dietary habits, and rising stress levels, liver-related diseases are on the rise. Previously, this issue was predominantly observed among the elderly; however, young adults and children are now increasingly falling victim to it as well. The liver is a vital organ of our body, responsible for eliminating toxic substances and aiding in the digestion of food. Therefore, maintaining its health is essential.

One of the most significant challenges associated with liver disease is that its symptoms are often not clearly apparent during the initial stages. This is precisely why doctors recommend undergoing periodic health checkups and liver function tests. If the disease is detected early on, treatment becomes much easier, and severe complications can be averted.
**Early Signs of Liver Damage**
Our body often begins to signal liver impairment in advance. The most significant of these signs involves the eyes. If the whites of the eyes begin to appear yellow, this symptom should not be dismissed as mere general weakness or fatigue. It may indicate an elevated level of a substance called bilirubin within the body.
Bilirubin is produced when old red blood cells break down within the body. Under normal circumstances, the liver filters this substance and eliminates it from the body. However, when the liver fails to function correctly, bilirubin begins to accumulate within the system. The effects of this accumulation first become visible in the eyes, causing the whites of the eyes to turn yellow.
According to medical experts, yellowing of the eyes can be a sign of several serious medical conditions. These include ailments such as jaundice, hepatitis, fatty liver disease, and liver infections. If, in addition to the eyes, the skin also begins to turn yellow, the urine becomes dark yellow, and one experiences persistent weakness, it is imperative to consult a doctor immediately for a medical examination.
Maintaining a proper diet and adopting a healthy lifestyle are crucial for keeping the liver healthy. Consuming a daily diet rich in green vegetables, fresh fruits, whole grains, and protein helps keep the liver robust. Conversely, excessive consumption of deep-fried foods, sugary items, packaged processed foods, and alcohol has a detrimental effect on the liver. This increases the risk of developing fatty liver and other serious diseases.

Maintaining a healthy body weight is also essential. Obesity is considered a major cause of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. Therefore, engaging in regular exercise and staying physically active is beneficial for liver health.
Furthermore, drinking an adequate amount of water is crucial, as it helps flush out toxins from the body. Doctors also recommend getting vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B to protect the liver from infections.
