The full moon day of the month of Magha is known as Magh Purnima or Maghi Purnima. According to पौराणिक (Puranic) beliefs, on the occasion of Magh Purnima, deities descend from heaven to earth and bathe in the confluence of rivers. Therefore, bathing in a holy river on Magh Purnima is believed to liberate the devotee from all sins.
