Maha Shivaratri is considered a very sacred and important festival in Hinduism. On this day, special prayers and rituals are offered to Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva is easily pleased by sincere worship on Maha Shivaratri and fulfills all the wishes of his devotees. The scriptures and Puranas mention several items that are dear to Lord Shiva, but some of these are considered essential for a complete Shiva Puja. Let's find out from an astrologer in Deoghar which items are considered auspicious to offer on the Shivalinga on Maha Shivaratri.

What does the Deoghar astrologer say?
Pandit Nand Kishore Mudgal, a renowned astrologer from Deoghar, told a Local 18 correspondent that three specific items should definitely be offered on the Shivalinga of Lord Shiva on Maha Shivaratri. These three items are Bhasma (sacred ash), Rudraksha, and Belpatra (Bael leaves). These three have a deep connection with Lord Shiva, and without them, the Maha Shivaratri puja is considered incomplete.
What is the importance of Bhasma?
The astrologer explains that Bhasma is Lord Shiva's favorite adornment. Shiva is also called 'Bhasmadhari' (one who wears sacred ash). Bhasma symbolizes the transience of life and conveys the message that all worldly possessions eventually perish. Offering Bhasma on the Shivalinga on Maha Shivaratri pleases Lord Shiva immensely and removes negativity from the devotee's life. Wearing Bhasma as a tilak (mark on the forehead) is also considered auspicious.
Know the importance of Rudraksha:
Rudraksha is believed to have originated from the tears of Lord Shiva. Offering Rudraksha on the Shivalinga on Maha Shivaratri brings mental peace and reduces planetary afflictions. Wearing Rudraksha after the puja is considered highly beneficial. It infuses positive energy into a person's life.

Know the importance of Belpatra:
Belpatra is very dear to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the three leaves of the Belpatra symbolize the Trimurti: Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh (Shiva). On the day of Mahashivratri, offering bel leaves to the Shiva Lingam with proper rituals pleases Lord Shiva quickly, and He fulfills the devotee's wishes. Pandit Nand Kishore Mudgal also explained that merely offering bel leaves is not enough; applying sacred ash (bhasma) as a tilak, wearing a rudraksha, and offering bel leaves during the puja are all essential. The puja is considered complete only when all these practices are followed. If these three beloved items are offered to the Shiva Lingam with devotion and faith on the day of Mahashivratri, then one is sure to receive the special blessings of Lord Shiva.
