According to religious beliefs, Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Linga on the night of Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Falgun month. For this reason, Mahashivratri is celebrated. Apart from this, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati were married on this date.
Shivratri
Lord Shiva is very fond of Chaturdashi Tithi, Monday, and the month of Sawan. According to Hindu religious scriptures, Shivratri falling in the month of Sawan is celebrated grandly. Sawan Shivratri is considered bigger than the Shivratri falling in every month. In the month of Sawan, Jalabhishek, and Rudrabhishek of Lord Shiva is performed. It is believed that Lord Shiva had held the poison produced during the churning of the ocean in his throat. Then to reduce the heat of this poison on Lord Shiva, all the gods and goddesses offered water and milk to Lord Shiva.
