As every year, Mahashivratri will be celebrated with devotion on the Chaturdashi (14th day) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the Phalguna month. This festival is considered a symbol of the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to religious beliefs, prayers, fasting, and chanting performed on this day please Lord Shiva quickly and fulfill the wishes of devotees. This day is considered especially auspicious for unmarried girls seeking a desired life partner. Astrologer Pandit Deeplal Jaipuri of Ambala explains that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married on Shivratri, which is why this day is considered very auspicious in Sanatan Dharma. This year, the Krishna Chaturdashi of the Phalguna month will begin at 5:04 PM on February 15th and continue until 5:34 PM on February 16th. According to the Udaya Tithi (sunrise time), Mahashivratri will be celebrated on February 15th this year.

Freedom from Obstacles
Pandit Deeplal Jaipuri explains that on Mahashivratri, the Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga will be from 7:00 AM to 7:48 PM. The auspicious conjunction of Uttara Ashadha and Shravana Nakshatra will also occur. Vyatipata Yoga will prevail throughout the day, while the Nishita Kaal (auspicious time at night) will be from 11:52 PM to 12:42 AM. The Abhijit Muhurta and Amrit Kaal are considered especially fruitful on this day. Pandit Deeplal says that offering certain special items to the Shivalinga on Mahashivratri brings special blessings. The first is bel leaves; offer 11 bel leaves with the smooth side facing downwards. The second is dhatura and bhang, which are considered dear to Shiva because they provide mental peace. The third is Shami flowers. Offering seven Shami flowers brings freedom from obstacles and fulfillment of desires.

Way to Reduce Obstacles
Pandit Deeplal Jaipuri suggests that if there is a delay in marriage or tension in married life, one should worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati together on Mahashivratri. Offer sindoor, bangles, and a bindi to Goddess Parvati, and perform Abhishek (ritual bathing) of Lord Shiva with Panchamrit (a mixture of five ingredients). This remedy improves communication and understanding in relationships. Performing an अभिषेक (ritualistic bathing) of the Shiva Lingam with sugarcane juice on Mahashivratri reduces financial difficulties. Performing this ritual while chanting the mantra 'Om Namah Shivaya' also infuses the mind with positive energy, which strengthens decision-making abilities.
