Mahashivratri is considered one of the main fast festivals of Hinduism. It is believed that by fasting on Mahashivratri, the devotee receives the immense blessings of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. Every year this festival is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Falgun month, so this year Mahashivratri will be celebrated on Wednesday, 26 February.

Do not make these mistakes.
Salt should not be consumed even by mistake during the fast of Mahashivratri. Along with this, a person should sleep during the day, meditate, sing bhajans, and do Jagran of Lord Shiva at night. By keeping all these things in mind, you get the full benefit of Mahashivratri fast.
Do not offer these things
On the day of Mahashivratri, do not offer broken Akshat, torn Belpatra leaves, sindoor, Tulsi leaves and Ketaki flowers etc. to Lord Shiva even by mistake. By doing this, Mahadev can get angry. These things should not be offered on Shivling on any other day except Mahashivratri.
