Amrit Siddhi Yoga is considered a very auspicious and sacred yoga in the calendar. This yoga is formed when a specific combination of a particular day and constellation occurs. "Amrit" means immortal and bestows divine results, and "Siddhi" means success. Therefore, any auspicious work done during this yoga yields long-term positive results. Worship, fasting, charity, chanting, or starting a new work is considered very auspicious during this time. If Amrit Siddhi Yoga occurs on a major festival, the significance of that day's worship increases even more. It is said that worshipping God during this yoga removes obstacles in life and fulfills wishes.

Mahashivratri, February 15, 2026
In 2026, Mahashivratri will be celebrated on Sunday, February 15. This festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Mahashivratri is celebrated on the Chaturdashi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Phalgun. It is believed that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married on this sacred night. Therefore, this night is considered very auspicious and sacred. Devotees fast on this day and worship Lord Shiva with full devotion. Temples are specially decorated, and the Shivalinga is anointed.
The night of Mahashivratri holds special significance. It is customary to observe a night vigil and perform pujas during the four prahars (watches). Midnight is considered the most auspicious time. Chanting mantras and meditating during this time brings special merit. If Amrit Siddhi Yoga is also occurring on this day, the rewards of the puja are considered many times greater.
A Simple Method of Worship According to Pandit Ji
On this subject, Pandit Damodar Joshi explains that this auspicious time of Amrit Siddhi Yoga is very sacred, and worshipping Lord Shiva also yields special results. He said that Lord Shiva is very innocent and is pleased with simple things. If you cannot perform elaborate rituals, chant Om Namah Shivay and offer Bael leaves and Bael fruit to the Lord. Bathe the Lord with Panchamrit (a mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar).
Correct Method of Worship
On Mahashivratri, wake up early in the morning, bathe, and wear clean clothes. Meditate on Lord Shiva and resolve to fast. You can observe a fast without food or fruits. Clean the place of worship in your home and install a Shivalinga or a picture of Lord Shiva there.
First, offer water and Ganga water to the Shivalinga. Afterward, perform an anointment with milk, yogurt, and honey. Then, bathe again with clean water. Apply a sandalwood tilak and offer a bel leaf (wood apple leaf). Ensure the bel leaf is clean and has three leaves. White flowers, dhatura (sweet ash), and cannabis are also offered to Lord Shiva.
Light incense and perform aarti (aarti). Chant the mantra "Om Namah Shivaya" 108 times. Also recite the Mahamrityunjaya mantra. Perform four-hour pujas at night, and if possible, hold a vigil. Bhajans, kirtans, and the Shiva Chalisa are also auspicious.

Break the fast after the puja. The next morning, bathe and break the fast after the puja. Donating to those in need is also considered auspicious. Only worship performed with a true heart and devotion is pleasing to Lord Shiva. May this auspicious day of Mahashivratri 2026 bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to everyone's life.
