In the morning rush, we often prepare bread-based dishes, and quite frequently, some bread is left over. Making the same recipe again a couple of days later can be boring, but you can transform that leftover bread into a delicious and quick breakfast: Bread Upma. So, let’s make this Upma recipe.

**Ingredients Required**
Bread slices: 6–7
Onion: 1 (finely chopped)
Garlic: 1 tsp (finely chopped)
Tomato: 1 (chopped)
Curry leaves: 7–8
Green chili: 1 (finely chopped)
Mustard seeds (Rai): 1 tsp
Turmeric powder: 1 tsp
Red chili powder: 1 tsp
Lemon juice: 1 tbsp
Salt: to taste
Coriander leaves: for garnishing
**Preparation Method**
Cut the bread into small pieces. You can either keep the crusts on or trim them off—both work for this recipe.
First, place a pan over high heat and add a tablespoon of cooking oil. Once the oil is hot, add the mustard seeds, curry leaves, and garlic, and sauté briefly.
Now, add the chopped onion and sauté for a while, then add the chopped tomato.
After sautéing the onion and tomato for 1–2 minutes, add the turmeric powder, salt, and red chili powder.
Sauté the mixture well for 3–4 minutes, then add the bread pieces and sauté again.
Once everything is well-cooked and sautéed, turn off the heat and add the lemon juice and coriander leaves.
Serve hot. You can also pack this Upma in your children's lunchboxes.

**You can also use potatoes**
If you don't like tomatoes in your Upma, you can use two boiled potatoes instead. If you are using potatoes, skip the tomatoes. Add the boiled potatoes after tempering the mustard seeds, curry leaves, and garlic and sautéing the onions. After that, add all the spices and sauté. This way, you can also prepare two different versions of bread upma by alternating between them.
