Manoj Bajpayee: Manoj Bajpayee will add a touch of comedy to Mahabharat, is he preparing for a big film with Rajkummar Rao?

Director Shoojit Sircar, known for his films on sensitive issues, is now making a mythological film. Interestingly, he will cast seasoned actors like Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao in this film. He has made a few comedies, but these films also tackle serious issues, including Vicky Donor and Piku. Now, after several years, Sircar is preparing to return to comedy, but with an unexpected twist, as this will be a mythological comedy.

A Comedy Twist in the Mahabharata Story
According to media reports, Sircar is preparing one of his most experimental projects to date. The filmmaker is attempting to explore a new aspect of humor in cinema, one that is rarely explored in Indian films. Shooting will begin in 2026 and will be one of the most unconventional projects in Indian cinema. The director is reportedly set to retell an important chapter of the Mahabharata from a comedic perspective—an approach virtually unheard of in mainstream Indian cinema. Maintaining its roots in mythological storytelling, while blending unique humor with contemporary beats, the film aims to reimagine the epic in a way that feels clever, sharp, and culturally refreshing.

Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao to Lead the Film
Bringing together two of India's most celebrated actors, the film stars Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao. Both actors are known for their versatility, timing, and ability to elevate any script. Both stars have had a stellar year, delivering a stellar slate of projects, and remain among the most sought-after actors in the industry.

Shoojit Sircar's most recent directorial venture was I Want to Talk, starring Abhishek Bachchan. This emotional drama is inspired by the real-life story of Arjun Sen, a cancer survivor preparing for life-changing surgery and trying to repair his strained relationship with his daughter. The cast also includes Ahalya Bamru, Johnny Lever, Pearl Dey, Jayant Kripalani, and Christine Goddard.

Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao's Workfront
Manoj Bajpayee recently reprised his fan-favorite role of Srikant Tiwari in Season 3 of "The Family Man," directed by Raj and DK. The new season sees the renowned detective grappling with a new national threat that dangerously intersects with his personal life. Rajkummar Rao was last seen in the lead role in "Maalik," followed by a cameo in Aryan Khan's directorial debut, "The Bads of Bollywood." The two have appeared together in films like "Gangs of Wasseypur" and "Aligarh."
