Nautapa 2026: The Heat Will Blaze from May 25th! Why Are These 9 Days the Hottest?

The month of May has barely begun, yet the sun has already started to reveal its fierce intensity. The scorching heat of June and July still lies ahead, but before that, we must brace ourselves for the intense heat of 'Nautapa.'

In the year 2026, Nautapa commences on May 25th. These are the nine days when the heat reaches its absolute peak, and the severity of heatwaves is at its highest.

**What is Nautapa?**
Nautapa is directly linked to astrology and the Sun's transit through various *Nakshatras* (lunar mansions). When the Sun God (*Surya Dev*) enters the Rohini Nakshatra, He remains there for a total of 15 days. Of these 15 days, the initial nine days are collectively known as 'Nautapa.' During this period, the Sun's rays fall directly upon the Earth, causing temperatures to soar significantly.

**Nautapa 2026 Dates**
According to the *Panchang* (Hindu almanac), this year—from May 25, 2026, to June 2, 2026—the Sun will reside in the Rohini Nakshatra within the zodiac sign of Taurus. Throughout these nine days, conditions of intense heat and heatwaves are expected to persist. Astrologically, starting from the 10th day, the distance between the Sun and the Earth begins to increase, leading to a gradual decline in temperatures.

**Nautapa: A Harbinger of Good Rainfall**
The intense heat of Nautapa is not merely a source of discomfort; it is also considered an auspicious sign. An adage states: "Tapai Nautapa nav din joy, tau pun barkha puran hoy." This translates to: "The more intensely Nautapa burns during these nine days, the more abundant and magnificent the rainfall will be during the ensuing monsoon season." For agricultural purposes, the intense heating associated with Nautapa is considered essential.

**Ways to Propitiate the Sun God**
During this period of extreme heat, perform the following rituals to shield yourself from the adverse effects of the Sun and to seek His divine blessings:

**Offering *Arghya*:** Wake up early every morning, take a bath, and offer water to the Sun God using a copper vessel (*Lota*). **The Significance of Charity:** During this period, donating water, jaggery, ghee, wheat, and red clothing to the poor is considered highly auspicious.

**Mantra Chanting:** Recite the 'Aditya Hridaya Stotra' or chant the Surya Gayatri Mantra.

**Philanthropy:** Arranging for water for thirsty people, as well as for animals and birds, is regarded as the greatest act of merit.
