Many people don't wash their hair every day during the winter season, so you can imagine the condition of children's hair. Here, we provide detailed information on the correct frequency and precautions for washing children's hair, based on expert opinions.

How often should children's hair be washed?
There's no need to wash it every day. Young children's scalps don't get oily as quickly as adults', so frequent washing can strip their hair of its natural oils. This can lead to problems like dryness and itching.
General rule: Newborns (0–6 weeks): Do not use shampoo for the first 4–6 weeks. Clean gently with water only.
Infants older than 6 weeks: Hair can be washed 1–3 times a week with a mild baby shampoo.
Older children (8–12 years): Washing hair 2–3 times a week is sufficient.
Over 12 years: Determine the frequency based on hair condition and oiliness.
Why is washing hair daily harmful?
Frequent washing strips the scalp of its natural oils, making the hair dry and weak.
This can increase hair breakage and hair loss.
Frequent shampooing can cause infection or irritation on sensitive scalps.
Consider the weather and hair type.
In summer: If the child sweats a lot or plays outdoors, you can slightly increase the frequency of hair washing.
In winter: Avoid frequent hair washing, as it increases the risk of catching a cold and drying out the scalp.
Oily scalp: Children with oily scalps may need to wash their hair a little more often.
Dry or curly hair: Washing less often is better to maintain moisture.
Precautions while washing hair
Use a mild baby shampoo.
Rinse the shampoo thoroughly to ensure no residue remains.
Do not use very hot water; lukewarm water is better.
Dry the hair gently after washing; avoid using a hairdryer. Special situation: Cradle cap
If your baby has dry patches or yellow flakes on their scalp:
Apply a little mineral oil to the hair.

Gently loosen the flakes with a soft brush.
Then wash with a mild baby shampoo.
It's not necessary to wash your baby's hair every day. Washing 2–3 times a week is sufficient, but adjust according to age, weather, and hair condition. Always use a mild shampoo and the correct technique.
