In Hinduism, the month of Sawan is considered dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that worshipping Bhole Nath (Lord Shiva) during this month yields special blessings. Throughout the month, devotees perform rituals such as *Jalabhishek* (offering water), *Rudrabhishek*, and general worship of the deity. However, religious beliefs also emphasize the significance of serving and helping the needy alongside these acts of worship. Pandit Kalki Ram, an astrologer from Ayodhya, explains that the month of Sawan is regarded as exceptionally sacred and rare. Arriving during the monsoon season, it brings lush greenery all around; this period of seasonal transition is considered particularly auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva.

Engaging in humanitarian service and assisting the needy alongside religious rituals during Sawan earns one spiritual merit (*Punya*). According to Pandit Kalki Ram, one should help those who are genuinely in need. For instance, helping a destitute person living in a dilapidated hut by arranging better accommodation is considered a virtuous act. Similarly, providing food and water to the hungry or thirsty is highly meritorious.

**Donating White or Yellow Clothes is Auspicious**
He noted that donating clothing to the needy during Sawan is also considered highly rewarding. New clothes can be donated to those who lack adequate attire or are forced to wear tattered garments. According to religious tradition, donating white or yellow clothes is deemed particularly auspicious. Furthermore, assisting needy children with their education is highlighted as a significant act of service. If a child has the aptitude for learning but cannot pay fees or attend school due to financial constraints, one should step in to support their education. Helping a child continue their studies by providing books, paying fees, or supplying school materials and other essential resources is a noble deed.

Serving Humanity Brings Merit
According to Pandit Kalki Ram, Sawan is not merely a month for worshipping Lord Shiva but also an opportunity for service, compassion, and benevolence. Assisting the needy during this period is considered an act of service to humanity as well as a spiritually meritorious deed. Therefore, if one helps the poor, the helpless, and the needy according to one's means alongside worshipping Lord Shiva during Sawan, this month can become a source of positivity and spiritual merit in one's life.
