India is an agricultural country, and strengthening the economic condition of farmers here has been a priority for the government. Farmers already receive an annual assistance of Rs 6,000 through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), but the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Mandhan Yojana (PM-KISAN) is a revolutionary step to provide social security in old age. This scheme is specifically for small and marginal farmers with limited sources of income.
What is this scheme and how do you benefit?
It is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme. Simply put, you invest a small amount every month based on your age. The government contributes an equal amount to your pension fund. When you reach the age of 60, the government begins providing you with a monthly pension of Rs 3,000 (Rs 36,000 annually) for life.
Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
There are some essential requirements to be a part of this scheme:
- Age Limit: Applicants must be between 18 and 40 years of age.
- Land Limit: This scheme is for small and marginal farmers who own 2 hectares (approximately 5 acres) or less of cultivable land.
- Source of Income: Applicants must not be members of any other government social security scheme (such as NPS, EPFO, or ESIC).
How Much Do You Need to Invest?
The investment amount in this scheme depends on your entry age.
- If you join at the age of 18, you will need to deposit only ₹55 per month.
- If you join at the age of 29, this amount will be ₹100 per month.
- If you join at the age of 40, you will need to contribute ₹200 per month.
The best part is that farmers who are already receiving the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi benefit can choose to have this pension directly deducted from their installment. This eliminates the hassle of making separate deposits.
How to Apply
The process of joining the scheme is very simple and digital:
Visit the nearest Common Service Center (CSC): Visit your nearest Common Service Center with your Aadhaar card and bank passbook.
Registration: The staff there will register you online. There is no fee.
Get the Card: After registration is complete, you will be given a 'Kisan Pension Card' with your unique pension number.
Family Protection: If a farmer dies while receiving the pension, their wife will receive half the pension, or ₹1,500 per month, as a 'family pension.' This provides financial support to the family during difficult times.
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PM-KISAN) gives farmers the opportunity to live with dignity. A small investment today can secure your tomorrow. If you are an eligible farmer, don't delay and take advantage of this scheme to secure your future.
