Major changes are set to take place regarding the rules for canceling train tickets. If you cancel a ticket less than 8 hours before the train's scheduled departure, you will not receive any refund. For cancellations made between 8 and 24 hours before departure, 50% of the fare will be deducted; whereas, for cancellations made between 24 and 72 hours in advance, a 25% deduction will apply. For cancellations made more than 72 hours before departure, a standard refund will be issued in accordance with the previous rules. Furthermore, offline tickets can now be canceled from any location; previously, this facility was available only at the terminating station. Additionally, you can now update your travel details up to 30 minutes before the train's departure. All these changes are scheduled to come into effect between April 1st and April 15th.

In addition, you can now change your boarding station up to 30 minutes before the train's departure—a feature particularly helpful for those who get stuck in traffic jams or face delays. Previously, this facility was available only before the reservation chart was prepared; however, the process has now been streamlined and digitized. Furthermore, if necessary, you can also change your travel class—for instance, upgrading from Third AC to Second AC, or downgrading to Sleeper Class.

**The Old Rules for Train Ticket Cancellation**
Previously, canceling a confirmed ticket incurred varying charges depending on the timing of the cancellation. If a ticket was canceled more than 48 hours before the train's departure, only a flat cancellation fee was deducted. This fee was ₹240 (plus GST) for Executive Class tickets, and ₹180 (plus GST) for AC Class tickets. Furthermore, if a ticket was cancelled between 48 and 12 hours before departure, a cancellation fee of 25% of the fare was deducted (subject to a minimum flat charge). For cancellations made between 12 and 4 hours before departure, 50% of the fare was deducted. If a ticket was not cancelled within 4 hours of the train's scheduled departure, no refund was granted.
For waitlisted tickets, only a nominal fee of ₹20 plus GST was deducted; if the ticket remained fully waitlisted even after the reservation chart was prepared, it would be automatically cancelled, and the full amount would be refunded without any further deductions. A full refund could also be obtained by filing a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) in cases where the train was completely cancelled or delayed by more than 3 hours.
