For India, the 'Ramayana' is not merely a mythological text or a story; it is an integral part of the nation's ethos, culture, and the lifestyle of every citizen. Regardless of region, language, or background, the story of Rama resides in every heart. This is precisely why, ever since Namit Malhotra and Nitesh Tiwari announced 'Ramayana'—poised to be the biggest film in Indian history—cinephiles across the globe have been eagerly awaiting the project.

However, the journey began with challenges. When the film's initial teaser was released, a section of the audience expressed disappointment with the visuals and VFX, despite the massive budget (approximately ₹4,000 crore). Doubts arose regarding whether the film would live up to its colossal budget; however, the exclusive trailer reveal held on the evening of July 18 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi changed the narrative. While the public release of the trailer is still some time away, I had the opportunity to watch this exclusive preview, and it answered all the questions I had in mind. One thing is certain: when the trailer officially drops on July 24, the subsequent 112-day wait until the film's theatrical release on Diwali (November 8, 2026) will feel agonizingly long, as the trailer is sure to skyrocket audience excitement.

The trailer opens with a striking moment, immediately introducing the audience to Ravana—the formidable Lord of Lanka—brought to life on screen by South Indian superstar Yash. A hallmark of Nitesh Tiwari’s direction is his decision to first showcase the villain's immense power and grandeur; the hero's struggle and ultimate victory are truly magnified only when the antagonist appears sufficiently powerful and menacing. Yash’s magnificent avatar in the very first second of the trailer makes it clear just how potent this film is.

Next, Ranbir Kapoor appears as Shri Ram. While the teaser offered only a fleeting glimpse, this trailer lays the foundation for the depth and gravitas of his character. The unique blend of capability and gentleness associated with Ram—evident in Ranbir’s body language—promises to set a new benchmark for his acting. Ever since the film was announced, there had been much speculation on social media regarding Sai Pallavi’s casting as Sita and her Hindi accent; however, her presence in the trailer has silenced all the trolls. The purity and depth of Sai Pallavi’s dialogue delivery and screen presence are truly touching. Even her brief scenes are enough to prove just how spot-on Nitesh Tiwari’s casting decision was.

Following the response to the teaser, producer Namit Malhotra had promised to leave no stone unturned, assuring that the final product would surpass audience expectations. The trailer stands as concrete proof that Namit has kept his word. The screen at Bharat Mandapam was not a conventional cinema hall screen, yet the visual quality—viewed through 3D glasses—was spectacular. The film’s primary objective is to adapt our ancient and mythological tales for the new generation using a cinematic language that is both magnificent and logically compelling. The trailer showcases mythological creatures and characters in a truly spectacular fashion. Whether it is the sight of Indra’s elephant, Airavata, or the majestic form of the mighty Jatayu, the visuals are enough to give you goosebumps. Superior CGI and VFX have elevated the film to world-class standards.
