'Dhurandhar', which has achieved record-breaking success at the box office, continues to be a topic of discussion not only for its storyline and spectacular action sequences but also for its powerful star cast. Ranveer Singh's performance in the film has won the hearts of both audiences and critics alike. However, the biggest question arising now is: why was Ranveer Singh chosen for such a massive, high-budget film? Did the makers consider other big stars, or was Ranveer their first choice from the very beginning? Jyoti Deshpande, the film's producer and CEO of Jio Studios, has now answered this question.
In an interview with *Outlook Business*, Jyoti Deshpande revealed that the budget for 'Dhurandhar' frequently exceeded the initial estimates. Furthermore, the project, originally conceived as a single film, was later expanded into two parts. Despite these challenges, neither she nor director Aditya Dhar ever considered backing out.
Jyoti stated that the entire team was confident they were creating something unprecedented in Indian cinema. She described it not merely as a film but as a vision that everyone worked on with utmost sincerity and passion. During the interview, Jyoti Deshpande made a significant revelation regarding the casting process. She explained that since the film was already extremely expensive, adding the hefty fees of major stars would have made the project financially unviable from day one.
The team decided they needed actors who could truly embody their characters rather than relying on stardom to drive the film. This approach led to the selection of Ranveer Singh. According to Jyoti, every rupee spent on the film had to be visible on screen; consequently, the primary focus was placed on the story, visuals, and performances.
Praising Ranveer Singh highly, Jyoti Deshpande noted that he did not work on any other projects during the filming of 'Dhurandhar' and remained completely dedicated to this movie. She noted that Ranveer is one of those actors who completely immerse themselves in every role. That is why, when he portrayed Bajirao, the audience saw only Bajirao; when he played Alauddin Khilji, he fully embodied that character; and in *Gully Boy*, too, he truly lived his role. Jyoti remarked that on screen, he does not appear as Ranveer Singh but transforms into the very character he is portraying. This is his greatest strength.
She mentioned that work on the film's script continued uninterrupted for over six months. During this period, multiple drafts of the story and screenplay were prepared to ensure the audience received an exceptional cinematic experience. She stated that the team was unwilling to make any compromises; their goal was to create a film that would set new benchmarks in terms of technology, storytelling, and visuals.
