RBI Issues Warning: Beware of WhatsApp Digital Arrest Scam!

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued an urgent warning for WhatsApp users across the country regarding a new cyber fraud techniqueDigital Arrest Scams.

⚠️ What is the Digital Arrest Scam?

Cybercriminals are using WhatsApp video calls to threaten victims with "digital arrest." They demand money in exchange for avoiding fake legal trouble. Many victims have lost crores of rupees, and some have even suffered mental distress due to these scams.

📢 RBI's Official Warning

The RBI is sending SMS alerts stating:

🛑 "Are you being threatened with digital arrest? There is no such thing in the law. Do not share personal or financial details or transfer money. Call 1930 for help."

🔴 How the Scam Works?

1️⃣ You receive a WhatsApp call/video call from an unknown number.
2️⃣ The scammer poses as an official from RBI, police, or a government agency.
3️⃣ They claim you are involved in illegal activity and will be arrested digitally.
4️⃣ They demand money to "settle" the matter.
5️⃣ Victims, fearing arrest, transfer money or share bank details—resulting in huge financial losses.

🛡️ How to Protect Yourself?

Do not answer unknown video calls on WhatsApp.
Do not panic—there is NO such thing as a digital arrest.
Never share personal, bank, or UPI details with strangers.
Disconnect the call immediately.
Report the scam on Cyber Crime Helpline 1930.
Block and report the number on WhatsApp.
