Republic Day 2026 Parade at Wagah Border: On January 26, 2026, Republic Day will be celebrated across the country. If you want to make this special day memorable, you can be a part of the Wagah Border Beating Retreat ceremony. This ceremony, held at the Attari-Wagah border, about 30 kilometers from Amritsar in Punjab, is a unique blend of patriotism, enthusiasm, and discipline. The Wagah Border ceremony began in 1959. In this ceremony, the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and the Pakistan Rangers lower the flags together every evening. On Republic Day, the enthusiasm is multiplied many times over.

Timing and Schedule
The ceremony usually starts about 45 minutes before sunset, i.e., around 4:15 PM. The entire program lasts for 45 to 60 minutes. There is a huge crowd on Republic Day, so it's best to arrive by 3 PM. The gates open in the morning, but seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tickets and Entry Rules
The good news is that there are no tickets for this ceremony. Entry is completely free. However, there is a huge crowd on Republic Day. Foreign tourists may get faster entry through a separate line upon showing their passports. If you take a guided tour from Amritsar, you won't have to worry about transportation.
How to Reach Wagah Border?
You can reach the Wagah Border by taking a taxi from Amritsar. This is the easiest option. The taxi fare can range from Rs. 750 to Rs. 1,500. You can also reach there by bus. Bus tickets are cheaper, but they are usually crowded. Several hotels and travel agencies also offer special tour packages for Republic Day.
Security and Important Precautions
Please note that there is strict security checking upon arrival at the Wagah Border. Carrying any bags, lighters, sharp objects, power banks, umbrellas, etc., is prohibited. Only mobile phones, cameras, ID cards, and water bottles are allowed. Keep these things in mind:
Along with all this information, try to wear comfortable clothes and shoes when you go there, carry a cap to protect yourself from the sun, and be sure to bring water. Arriving early will help you get a good seat.
