Keeping a Shivalinga in the home temple is considered very auspicious. It is believed that regularly worshipping and offering water to a Shivalinga in the home bestows the devotee with special blessings from Lord Shiva. Therefore, if you are considering installing a Shivalinga in your home, be sure to keep these five things in mind.

1. What is the correct direction for the Shivalinga?
The north and north-east direction of the home, i.e., the north-east corner, is considered the best for installing a Shivalinga. According to Vaastu Shastra, installing a Shivalinga in this direction fosters happiness and prosperity in the family. Also, be especially careful that the Jaladhari (the part of the Shivalinga from which water flows) of the Shivalinga should always face north or east.
2. The correct size:
Vaastu Shastra considers it auspicious to have a Shivalinga the size of a thumb in the home. Placing a Shivalinga that is too large or too small should be avoided.
3. How many Shivlingas are auspicious to keep?
Vastu Shastra states that there should not be more than one Shivlinga in the house. Otherwise, it will not bring good results. If you have more than one Shivlinga, it can also cause Vastu defects.
4. Avoid keeping such a Shivlinga
Never keep a broken Shivlinga in the house; otherwise, it can bring negative results. If, for some reason, your Shivlinga has broken, then while apologizing for your mistakes, immerse it in clean, flowing water. Doing so can save you from bad consequences.

5. Keep these things in mind, too:
Shivlinga should never be placed directly on the ground. Always keep it on a platform or a clean place. Also, Shivlinga should never be installed in your bedroom. This can increase negativity.
