Samadhi Given To Sadhu Sant : Why is samadhi given to sadhus and saints, know why cremation is not done?

Why Samadhi Given To Sadhu Sant: Sadhus and saints are seen with great respect in Indian culture. They dedicate their lives to penance, meditation, and the realization of God. After their death, the way of their last rites is different from that of a common man. Sadhus and saints are not cremated, but they are given Samadhi. Let us know from Bhopal-based astrologer and Vastu consultant Pandit Hitendra Kumar Sharma why the last rites of sadhus and saints are so special and what is the reason behind the process of Samadhi.

Why are sadhus and saints not cremated?

Sadhus and saints spend their lives beyond material pleasures, only for spiritual advancement. They do penance to get free from the cycle of birth and death. According to the scriptures, their body is only a temporary home of the soul. When a sadhu or saint dies, their body is not suitable for cremation, because they have already attained the state of salvation. For them, the abandonment of the body after death is only a part of a ritual, which they complete in the form of Samadhi.

The main purpose of the process of giving Samadhi is that the body of the sadhu is completely absorbed in nature. The body of the sadhu is buried in the ground so that his body ends by merging with the earth naturally. This process is called Samadhi and it helps them to move forward towards salvation at the soul level.

Kriyakarma of Sadhu-Saints

When a sadhu or saint dies, there is a separate 16-day special ritual for him, which is called 'Solsi'. This period is determined keeping in mind the balance of the body and soul of the sadhu. During this, the sadhu-saints of Godar Akhara offer bhog on the body of the deceased sadhu and try to attain peace through various methods. In these 16 days, the disciples and other devotees of the deceased sadhu perform that ritual with full devotion and respect.

Post Samadhi Bhandara
After the 16-day ritual, the disciples of the saint organize a final Bhandara in which people from the society participate and seek blessings for the departed soul. In this way, the last rites of the saints not only symbolize their spiritual progress but also serve as a way to dedicate their learnings and purpose in life.
