Sawan Month 2025: The holy month of Sawan is going on. This time is very special for Shiva devotees, because in this month, there is special importance of worship of Lord Shiva. Devotees try to please Bholenath through Jalabhishek, Rudrabhishek, and fasting on Shivling. This month, anointing Shivling with Gangajal is considered very virtuous, because according to mythological beliefs, Ganga descended from the locks of Lord Shiva. However, some things are forbidden to offer on Shivling with Gangajal. Doing this can cause displeasure of Shiva instead of his grace.

Which things are forbidden to offer on Shivling with Gangajal?
Tulsi leaves
Tulsi leaf is dear to Lord Vishnu, but offering it on Shivling is considered forbidden. Offering Tulsi with Gangajal does not give the fruits of worship, and Lord Shiva may be displeased.

Kumkum and Sindoor
Kumkum and Sindoor are considered to be the symbols of Suhaag, while Shivling is the symbol of celibacy and the male element. In such a situation, their use with Gangajal on Shivling in Sawan is considered inauspicious.

Akshat (raw rice)
Akshat is often used in worship, but offering raw rice on Shivling is considered forbidden. This can break the sanctity of worship.

Offering Gangajal from Shankh
Conch is the element of the ocean and according to the scriptures, offering Gangajal from a conch on Shivling is prohibited. The reason for this is that Shiva had consumed the poison produced from the churning of the ocean, and the conch is a symbol of the same ocean. Therefore, offering Gangajal from a conch is considered inauspicious.
