Have you also received an SMS saying that your package is stuck in a warehouse and that if you do not update your address within 24 hours, the package will be returned? If yes, then be alert! This is a new online scam, which is being spread to dupe innocent people.

How does this scam work?

This fake message may look very real, forcing people to take action quickly. A link is given in the message, which looks like the website of India Post, but in reality, it is a fraudulent fake site.

A fake link is sent

When a user clicks on this link, he is asked to fill in his name, address, phone number, bank details, and even credit card information. This data is used for identity theft, fake transactions, or selling it on the dark web.

Malware and Hacking

In many cases, this fake site can also install malware in your device, which can hack your phone or computer.

PIB Fact Check's warning

Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check has busted this fake message and said that India Post never sends such messages asking to click on an external link to update the address.
