If you desire happiness, prosperity, and peace in your home, consider installing an idol of Lord Ganesha. According to Vastu Shastra, having a Ganesha idol at home removes obstacles in your endeavors and fosters an atmosphere of peace and positive energy.

It is believed that placing the idol in the wrong posture or direction can negatively affect family members and lead to life's difficulties. In this article, we explain the ideal characteristics of the idol and the rules regarding its placement.
**Sitting vs. Standing Posture:** According to Vastu Shastra, an idol of Lord Ganesha in a seated posture is considered auspicious. Installing such an idol invites wealth and happiness into the home and maintains harmony and peace among family members.
**Standing Posture Idol:** One should not keep an idol of Lord Ganesha in a standing posture at home. Vastu suggests that standing idols are better suited for offices or shops, as they help maintain momentum in work.
**Trunk Turned to the Left:** You should install an idol of Lord Ganesha with his trunk turned to the left. Worshipping a Ganesha idol with a left-facing trunk brings happiness and peace to the household.
**Trunk Turned to the Right:** A Ganesha idol with the trunk turned to the right is known as *Siddhi Vinayak*. It is believed that any error in the worship of *Siddhi Vinayak* can incur spiritual faults; therefore, such idols are typically kept only in temples.
**Rules for Proper Direction and Installation**
According to Vastu Shastra, the North-East direction is considered the most auspicious for placing a Ganesha idol at home. Alternatively, the idol can be placed in the North or West directions. Adhering to these guidelines ensures successful worship and helps prevent obstacles in life.

**Points to Remember**
When purchasing the idol, ensure that Lord Ganesha is depicted holding a *Modak* (a sweet dumpling) in his hand. Additionally, the idol should feature his *Vahana* (divine vehicle), the mouse (*Mooshak*). The idol of Ganpati Bappa is considered incomplete without these two things.
