Chanting mantras on Shani Amavasya is of utmost importance. Charity has special importance on Amavasya. On Shani Amavasya, especially black items should be donated. These include black clothes, blankets, black urad, black sesame, iron utensils, and mustard oil. Giving these to a needy or poor person not only gives virtue but also reduces the pain of Saturn. It is said that donating brings stability and progress in a person's life. Shani Dev is quickly pleased by serving the poor and unhappy people.
