Sheetala Saptami 2026 Puja Samagiri List: The festival of Sheetala Saptami or Basoud will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 10th. Every year, this festival is celebrated on the Saptami Tithi (seventh day) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the Chaitra month. However, in some places, worship is performed on the Saptami Tithi (seventh day), while in others, worship is performed on the Ashtami Tithi (eighth day). In this festival dedicated to Mother Sheetala, stale food is offered to the Goddess, and stale food is also consumed at home. It is believed that worshipping Mother Sheetala protects the family from smallpox, rashes, and other infectious diseases. If you are celebrating Sheetala Saptami on March 10th, gather the puja items now so that a lack of items does not hinder the puja. Learn the complete Sheetala Saptami Puja list here…

What is the form of Mother Sheetala?
Religious texts describe Mother Sheetala as riding a donkey, holding a broom, a ladle, and a pot filled with water. The broom is considered a symbol of cleanliness, while the water in the pot symbolizes healing from illness. Therefore, this festival is also associated with cleanliness and health.

What is the tradition of Basoda?
Sheetala Saptami is called Basoda in many places. Basoda means stale or food prepared the day before. On this day, stoves or gas are not lit in homes. Instead, food is prepared the day before, and the next day, the same cold food is offered to Goddess Shitala and consumed as prasad. The religious belief behind this tradition is that Goddess Shitala loves cold food, so cold prasad is offered to her. Basoda prasad typically includes puris, sweet rice, curry, vegetables, yogurt, jaggery, and other dishes.
