Imagine this: your friend's wedding or a special date is tomorrow, and this morning, as soon as you look in the mirror... a big, red pimple is staring back at you from your forehead. In such a situation, people immediately suspect the chocolate they ate or the milkshake they drank the night before.
For years, we've been hearing from our grandmothers and friends: "Don't eat chocolate, it will ruin your complexion," but is your favorite chocolate really ruining your beauty, or is it just an old myth? Today, with the help of dermatologist Dr. Ankur Sareen, we'll tell you the truth behind foods that supposedly cause acne.
Chocolate
Many people believe that eating chocolate causes acne, but this isn't entirely true. According to Dr. Ankur, eating dark chocolate is perfectly safe and doesn't cause acne. The real problem lies with milk chocolate. Milk chocolate contains sugar and milk, which can contribute to acne.
Coffee
If you're a coffee lover, breathe a sigh of relief. Coffee itself doesn't cause acne. However, when you add milk and sugar to your coffee, this combination can be harmful to the skin.
Sugar and Fruit Juices
Sugar and commercially available fruit juices are major causes of acne. Sugar and juices rapidly increase insulin levels in the body, which increases oil production in the skin and leads to breakouts.
Fruits
Most whole fruits do not cause acne. They are safe. However, consuming too many fruits with a high glycemic index (High-GI) can exacerbate the problem, but generally, eating fruit is safe.
Milk and Whey Protein
For gym-goers, it's important to know that whey protein can worsen acne, especially hormonal acne. It increases insulin and IGF-1 levels in the body. Additionally, milk, and especially skim milk, has been linked to acne because it contains hormones and whey.

Yogurt
Yogurt is safe for most people. Since it is a fermented food, it is good for the stomach. However, yogurt can cause pimples only if your body is sensitive to dairy products; otherwise, it's fine.
