Sunita Williams: Indian-origin American astronaut Sunita Williams has successfully returned to Earth after a nine-month long space mission. She made a safe splashdown on the coast of Florida at 3:27 am today after a 17-hour journey through SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft. During this time, three other astronauts were also with her - Captain Nick Hague of Crew-9 mission, Russian cosmonaut Alexander Gorbunov and Butch Wilmer.
Sunita smiled after feeling gravity
When the Dragon capsule entered the Earth's atmosphere, its temperature reached 1,600 degrees Celsius. After splashdown, the safety team took out all the four astronauts safely with the help of the recovery ship. First Nick Hague, then Alexander Gorbunov, then Sunita Williams and finally Butch Wilmer were brought out. When Sunita felt the gravity of the Earth for the first time after a gap of nine months, happiness was visible on her face. She waved her hand and greeted everyone.
The medical team shifted her to the stretcher
Being in zero gravity for a long time has a profound effect on the body of the astronauts. Therefore, immediately after taking Sunita out of the capsule, the medical team made her sit on the stretcher. She tried to stand on her feet for a few seconds, but could not maintain balance. During this time, two people supported her and made her sit on the stretcher.
8-day journey became a 9-month challenge
It is worth noting that Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmer were sent into space on June 5, 2024 through Boeing's new Starliner crew capsule. Originally the mission was for only 8 days, but due to technical problems it had to be extended to 9 months (286 days). During this time he completed 900 hours of research work and conducted more than 150 experiments.
Record of woman spending most time in space
According to NASA, Sunita Williams has set a new record for the woman spending most time in space. She worked outside the space station for 62 hours and 9 minutes and did a spacewalk 9 times. Her historic mission has added another milestone in space research.
Success of NASA and SpaceX
After this successful mission, both NASA and SpaceX praised the courage and dedication of Sunita Williams and her fellow astronauts. Their safe return has opened the doors to new possibilities for future space missions.
