On October 19, coinciding with Sunny Deol’s birthday, the teaser for his upcoming film, 'Surya - Ant Se Aarambh Tak', was released. Shortly after its release, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and resident doctors at AIIMS, Delhi, raised concerns regarding its content. Here is the full story.

Allegations by the IMA
Dr. Piyush Jain, Finance Secretary of the IMA, stated that every day, thousands of doctors serve the public with great diligence, dedication, and sacrifice, often under extremely difficult circumstances.
He noted that if there is evidence of wrongdoing by an individual, it should be investigated, and the person should be punished according to the law. However, it is unfair to malign an entire profession due to the actions of a few individuals.
Dr. Jain added, "Glorifying or sensationalizing violence against doctors is unacceptable. It threatens to undermine the trust between doctors and their patients. Stop defaming doctors; instead, ensure the safety of those who save the lives of others."
Allegations by AIIMS Doctors
The Resident Doctors' Association (RDA) at AIIMS, Delhi, has also criticized the film's teaser. The association alleges that the teaser depicts physical assaults on healthcare workers, thereby promoting such violence.
According to the association, the film's protagonist is shown engaging in severe physical violence and assault against medical staff inside a hospital. The organization further claims that the dialogue in the teaser appears to justify and endorse such incidents.
The RDA emphasized that cinema has a profound impact on public perception and social behavior. Portraying acts of violence against doctors—or taking the law into one's own hands—as normal or acceptable sends a dangerous message to society.
The organization warned that such sensationalized imagery could mislead the public and potentially exacerbate the violence already being faced by healthcare workers across the country. The association has appealed to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the film's producers to address this matter immediately. Furthermore, it has demanded assurance that the film's content neither promotes nor justifies violence against individuals in the medical profession.
Gujarat IMA also demands a review of the film
In this regard, the Gujarat branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also urged the central government and the CBFC to review the film's entire content—including its dialogues, scenes depicting doctors and hospitals, and promotional material. This demand has been raised ahead of the film's scheduled release on November 20.
In a letter addressed to the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, the organization clarified that it has no objection to the portrayal of genuine instances of medical negligence. Its concern is that the film might present the entire medical profession in a biased and distorted light.

When is the film being released?
The film is directed by M. Padmakumar.
In addition to Sunny Deol, the cast includes Ravi Kishan, Pragya Jaiswal, Tanushree Chakraborty, Manish Wadhwa, and Tinnu Anand in significant roles.
The film also features Veerti Vaghani, Jisshu Sengupta, Khalid Siddiqui, Anoop Trivedi, and Rohit Tiwari.
The film is set to be released on November 20.
