Tech Explained: Why does the time on every iPhone screen always show 9:41 AM? Learn the secret behind it..

If you ever carefully watch an iPhone advertisement or launch presentation, you'll always notice one thing in common: the time displayed on the phone's screen. In every advertisement, the time shown on the phone's screen is always set to 9:41 AM. If you think this is a coincidence, it's not at all; there's a deep thought process and strategy behind it.

Why is the same time set on all iPhones?
Whether you look at Apple's first iPhone or the latest iPhone 17, you'll find that all of them have the time set to 9:41 AM. This is because on January 9, 2007, when Apple's then-CEO Steve Jobs first introduced the iPhone to the world in San Francisco, that was the time on the clock. Apple wanted the time displayed on the phone's screen to be approximately the same as the time on the audience's watches when the phone was revealed on stage. This is why this time has become an Apple trademark.

The time used to be different.
Initially, Apple products displayed 9:42 AM on their screens. This was because the company designed its launch events with extremely precise timing. Typically, the new product was unveiled about 40 to 42 minutes after the presentation began.

However, during the iPad launch in 2010, Apple refined the timing even further and changed it to 9:41 AM. Since then, this time has been displayed on devices like iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks.

Apple Watch shows a different time.
Interestingly, the Apple Watch displays 10:09 AM, not 9:41 AM. This is due to an old tradition in the watch industry, where watches are typically displayed at the 10:10 position so that the dial and brand name are clearly visible. Apple adopted this tradition, but chose 10:09 AM to differentiate itself slightly.
