Legal knowledge is crucial these days, but not everyone has easy access to a lawyer. To address this problem, the Department of Justice has launched a tele-law service. Through this service, you can receive free legal advice from expert lawyers via phone or video call from the comfort of your home. This scheme aims to provide easy and affordable legal assistance to people, especially those living in remote areas. Let's explain what the tele-law service is. In what cases can you get advice? How can you get help?

What is the tele-law service?
Tele-law is a digital initiative of the Government of India that aims to provide easy access to pre-litigation legal advice. It was launched specifically to help people in rural areas and vulnerable groups. This scheme was jointly launched in 2017 by the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Electronics and IT.
How does tele-law work?
It connects people with lawyers through video and phone calls. Lawyers selected by the government provide advice on legal issues. This way, people can get accurate legal guidance without having to go to court and without incurring significant expenses.
Key Features of the Tele-Law Service
This service is available through Common Service Centers (CSCs) across the country. These CSCs are located at every village or Gram Panchayat level, allowing rural residents to easily access legal advice.
Mobile App
People can also access tele-law services through their mobile phones. The Tele-Law Mobile App (Android and iOS) is available in 22 designated languages.
Completely Free Service
This service is completely free for all citizens. Previously, those who did not receive free legal aid under the LSA Act were charged a fee of 30 rupees, but now this service is completely free for everyone.
What matters will you get advice on?
A panel of lawyers provides advice for approximately 20 minutes. The lawyers provide appropriate legal guidance based on your problem. You can also deal with family matters, dowry, divorce, domestic violence, maintenance of women, children, and the elderly, minimum wages, equal pay for equal work, maternity benefits, land disputes, FIR filing process, and SC/ST atrocities cases, etc.
