These 5 actions immediately after Shraddh could prove costly; keep these points in mind during Pitru Paksha..

In Hinduism, *Pitra Paksha* is considered a special time to remember and pay homage to one's ancestors. During this period, family members perform rituals such as *Shraddha*, *Tarpan*, and *Pind Daan* based on the death anniversaries of their departed loved ones. It is believed that performing these rituals with devotion and in accordance with scriptural guidelines brings peace to the ancestors and ensures their continued blessings upon the family. There is also a tradition of maintaining a *Sattvic* (pure) and peaceful atmosphere at home during *Pitra Paksha*; therefore, special care regarding diet, daily routine, and behavior is advised during this time.

According to Ujjain-based astrologer Anand Bhardwaj, the scriptures outline various rules and precautions for performing *Shraddha* rituals. Similarly, there are certain actions one is advised to avoid after the *Shraddha* or *Tarpan* ceremony. Let us look at five such activities that should not be undertaken immediately after the *Shraddha* ritual.

1. Maintain a peaceful and positive atmosphere at home after the *Shraddha* ritual. Avoid disputes or arguments with family members. Do not use harsh language in anger or disrespect the elderly. It is believed that maintaining a peaceful environment ensures the continued grace of the ancestors.

2. If a needy, poor, or hungry person—or an animal or bird—arrives at your doorstep on the day of *Shraddha*, do not drive them away harshly. It is believed that offering food and water to guests and living beings on this day brings the ancestors' blessings and makes the *Shraddha* ritual complete.

3. The ritual of *Panchabali* (offering food to five entities) holds special significance after the *Shraddha* ceremony during *Pitra Paksha*. One should consume *Sattvic* food only after offering food to a Brahmin, a cow, a dog, a crow, ants, and the deities. According to belief, there should be a gap of at least one to three hours between these offerings and one's own meal.

4. Sleeping or resting during the day immediately after completing the *Shraddha* or *Tarpan* process is not considered appropriate according to religious beliefs. It is believed that one should rest only about three hours after the *Shraddha* ritual has been performed. It is important to maintain restraint and a *sattvic* (pure) lifestyle during this period.

5. Special attention should be paid to diet on the day of *Shraddha* and throughout *Pitra Paksha*. According to religious beliefs, one should abstain from consuming garlic, onions, meat, alcohol, and other *tamasic* foods during this time. Consuming *sattvic* food is considered auspicious, as it helps maintain the purity of the mind.
