Vastu: Which side should a husband sleep on – the right or the left? know..

Sleeping Rule: Often, small questions in homes become the cause of great confusion. This is especially true regarding rules related to married life, where many people have various questions. One such question was asked by many mothers and sisters to Yagyacharya Manoj Sharma: Should a wife sleep on her husband's right or left side? This question may seem simple, but the scriptures provide clear rules for it. Astrologer Ravi Parashar has explained this topic with scriptural evidence and clearly stated that he doesn't offer his own opinions; whatever he says is based on the scriptures.

Our scriptures have laid down different rules regarding the position of men and women in marriage, worship, meals, rituals, and daily life. The purpose of these rules is said to be to maintain balance and decorum in life. This article explains that information in simple language so that the reader can understand without confusion which side the wife should be on while sleeping with her husband and on what occasions the rule of the right or left side applies. Let's learn from astrologer Ravi Parashar.

What do the scriptures say about the wife's sleeping position?
According to the scriptures, during the marriage ceremony, the wife is always seated on the left side of the husband. The ritual of applying vermilion (sindoor) is also performed from the husband's left side. This clearly means that from the time of marriage, the woman's place is considered to be on the left side.

This same rule is said to apply to sleeping as well. The scriptures state that when husband and wife sleep, the wife should always sleep on the left side of her husband. Doing so increases mutual love, prevents discord in life, and keeps married life happy. According to scriptural teachings, this leads to prosperity, wealth, and the fulfillment of desires.

The rule of the left side in worship, rituals, and other activities
- The scriptures mention the rule of the left side not only for sleeping but also for several other activities. When ablutions are performed with the water from the kalash (pot) after worship, the person should be on the left side.

- Similarly, when washing the feet of an elder, being on the left side is considered scripturally correct. Even during meals, the rule is that the wife should sit to the left of her husband. All these points are presented as per scriptural authority.

When should the wife be on the right side?
The scriptures also state that in certain specific activities, the wife should be on the right side of her husband. In all auspicious ceremonies, such as Yajna (fire ritual), Havan (fire sacrifice), idol installation, worship, and other auspicious events, the wife's place is considered to be on the right side of her husband.

This means that in everyday life and activities like sleeping and eating, the rule is to be on the left side, while in religious and auspicious ceremonies, the tradition is to be on the right side.

The scriptural reason for being called "Vamangi" (left-sided)
In the scriptures, a woman is called "Vamangi." There is a scriptural belief behind this as well. It is said that when Lord Brahma created the universe, the male originated from the right side and the female from the left side. For this reason, a woman is called Vamangi, and her place is considered to be on the left side.

According to Ravi Parashar, all this information is based on the scriptures. It does not include any personal opinion or imagination. Therefore, mothers and sisters should always sleep on the left side of their husbands according to the scriptures and keep in mind the rule of being on the right side during auspicious ceremonies.
