The story of an elderly couple living in the beautiful valleys of Kumaon, Uttarakhand, is set to appear on the big screen. 'Pyare', a film by National Award-winning filmmaker Vinod Kapri, will soon be released in cinemas. The film has already won 18 international awards.

The film features 80-year-old Padam Singh Kapri and 70-year-old Heera Devi making their acting debut. It narrates a story of love, loneliness, memories, and the long wait of parents as their children migrate away.

When will the movie be released?
'Pyare' is scheduled for release in cinemas across India on October 23, 2026. Set against the backdrop of a remote village in the Kumaon region, the film portrays the lives of an elderly couple whose world revolves around their home, cherished memories, and each other. Their children have left the village in search of a better future, and the couple waits for their return.

What did Kapri say about the film?
Regarding the casting of the two lead actors, director Vinod Kapri stated in a release that their real-life experiences helped lend authenticity to the story.

He said, "'Pyare' is ultimately a love story—both between two people who have spent their entire lives together and between parents and their children. I wanted to tell this story through two individuals who have actually lived such a life.

Finding Padam Singh-ji and Heera Devi-ji was an extraordinary experience. Their relationship, their silences, and their emotions brought an authenticity to the screen that no professional actor could have replicated."
Notably, Padam Singh Kapri, who plays the character of Padam Singh, is a retired army man.
Meanwhile, Heera Devi, who plays the character of Tulsi, is a homemaker, a widow, and a former dancer. The film has won multiple awards.
'Paayre' had its world premiere at the 28th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it won the POFF Best Film Audience Award.
Subsequently, the film was screened at several international film festivals, including the São Paulo International Film Festival, Cambridge Film Festival, Bath Film Festival, Fajr International Film Festival, and the International Film Festival of Kerala.

According to the makers, the film has won 18 international awards to date, including 15 'Best Film' awards.
It has also received 'Best Director' awards in Serbia and Boston.
Additionally, the film has been honored for its music, cinematography, and sound design.
The film is produced by Vinod Kapri, Suresh Joshi, and Arindra Ray Choudhury under the banners of Bhagirathi Films and Mashakbeen Studios.
Cinepolis will release the film in cinemas across India.
The music has been composed by Mychael Danna, known for films such as 'Life of Pi', 'Monsoon Wedding', 'Little Miss Sunshine', and 'Moneyball'.
The lyrics have been penned by Gulzar.
