Obesity has engulfed many people around the world. It is a rapidly growing problem, which is no less than an epidemic. Rapidly increasing obesity can cause many serious problems. This is the reason why recently PM Modi expressed concern about obesity in his program Mann Ki Baat and advised people to avoid it.
This problem is seen in everyone and hence World Obesity Day is celebrated every year on March 4 with the aim of spreading awareness about it around the world. On this occasion, we learned from Dr. Kalyan Kumar Gangopadhyay, an endocrinologist at CMRI Kolkata, what serious diseases obesity can cause and how to avoid it.

Serious disadvantages of obesity
The doctor said that obesity is rapidly emerging as one of the most serious health issues of the present, which is causing not only diabetes but also various life-threatening diseases like fatty liver disease, heart disease, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, and even some cancers. Earlier obesity was associated only with diabetes, but now we have realized that it is a polyorgan disorder, which can cause many problems.
Accumulation of excess fat in and around the throat can cause obstructive sleep apnea and also reduce the level of oxygen in the blood. It can also cause heart disease and high blood pressure. Apart from this, hormonal disturbances caused by obesity are also the cause of many problems, which should be carefully evaluated by an endocrinologist or metabolic health expert.
