What is ADHD? Many children nowadays are facing problems like ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. A major reason for this is phones or screens. In today's digital age, mobile phones have become a part of children's lives. But according to experts, a big mistake by parents is behind this problem in children. Yes, parents often give children phones to keep them quiet or busy, but this habit can have a long-term impact on their brains.
How does a child's brain work?
During childhood, the brain is constantly developing. During this time, the child learns to focus, be patient, and understand boredom. These skills are crucial for future learning, behavior, and emotional balance. But when a child is repeatedly exposed to screens, this natural learning process is disrupted.
Screens and Dopamine
Mobile phones, tablets, and TVs release dopamine instantly due to fast-paced videos, bright colors, and constantly changing content. Dopamine is the chemical that gives the brain a feeling of pleasure and excitement. When a child's brain becomes addicted to this, reading a book, sitting quietly, or focusing on one thing becomes boring for them.
Weakening of Focus
Due to screens, the brain's "patience circuit" does not develop fully. The focus muscles begin to weaken. In such a situation, when parents take away the phone, children are unable to cope with the real world. Everything seems too slow and unbearable to them, which can promote the symptoms of ADHD.
Long-Term Side Effects
Once these neural pathways are set in the brain, they are not easy to change. Every time you give your child a phone to keep them quiet, you are promoting long-term focus and behavioral problems in exchange for a few minutes of relief.
Why is boredom important for children?
Boredom is often considered negative, but the truth is that boredom strengthens children's brains. When a child is bored, their mind tries to think independently, imagine, and come up with new ideas. This process improves their ability to focus.
