Sunny Deol's highly anticipated war drama film 'Border 2' seems to be running into trouble just before its release. The Sunny Deol starrer 'Border 2' is scheduled for release in theaters on January 23, 2026, and is a sequel to J.P. Dutta's 1997 blockbuster 'Border'. It is one of the most talked-about films of 2026, but a snag has emerged before its release. Reports suggest that, following 'Dhruva', the film has not received clearance for release in several Gulf countries, including the UAE, which has increased the makers' concerns.

It is being reported that the clearance is being held up due to the film's alleged content, and it is now considered unlikely that approval will be granted before the release. Therefore, its theatrical release in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman is unlikely. According to reports, the film has not received clearance due to its "anti-Pakistan" content.
Why was it banned in the Gulf countries?
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, 'Border 2' will not be released in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Films with "anti-Pakistan" content are not granted release in this region. The makers tried, but even a day before the release, permission was not granted. The distributors also tried, but it was not possible.
The makers of 'Dhruva' also faced a similar setback.
This situation is similar to that of Ranveer Singh's 'Dhruva' last month, which was also banned in the Gulf countries. 'Dhruva' did not receive a release due to its Pakistan-related content, resulting in a loss of approximately Rs 50 to 90 crore for the makers from overseas markets. However, the film still collected over Rs 1000 crore in India and became the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time. The makers hope that 'Border 2' will also be successful in India and other markets. These films were also banned in the Gulf, yet became blockbusters.

Before Border 2 and Dhurandhar, Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 was also banned in the Gulf, but it became a blockbuster. Similarly, 'Fighter' (2024), released in 2024, was also banned in most Gulf countries. It is worth noting that 'Border 2' is looking strong at the Indian box office. It is expected that the film will earn between 30 and 40 crore rupees on its first day.
