Alima Khan, sister of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has said that she is disappointed with the performance of her country's cricket team in the Champions Trophy. Host Pakistan became the first team to be eliminated from the eight-team Champions Trophy after big defeats to New Zealand in Karachi and India in Dubai. Alima spoke to the media outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after meeting Imran. Alima said that Imran, who led Pakistan to the World Cup title in 1992, also questioned the cricketing credentials of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Alima said this quoting Imran.
Alima said, 'The founder of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) has expressed great sorrow over losing the match against India.' Alima told about the PTI founder's statement to Naqvi, 'Imran said that cricket will eventually be destroyed when the right to make decisions is given to one's favorite people.' Alima said that cricketer-turned-politician Imran also watched the match between India and Pakistan.
Pakistan team out of the first round
With New Zealand's victory over Bangladesh, the journey of both defending champions Pakistan and Bangladesh from Group A has ended in the group stage of the tournament. India and New Zealand have confirmed their place in the semi-finals from this group. Now the match between India and New Zealand will be played in Dubai on March 2. Whichever team wins this match will top Group A and enter the last four. Pakistan was the defending champion as well as the host of this tournament, but its performance was very poor due to which the team's journey stopped in the group stage itself. The interesting thing is that this ICC tournament started on 19 February and the host team's journey ended just six days later.
Interim coach Aaqib Javed will be in trouble.
After this performance of the team, it is believed that the support staff led by interim coach Aaqib Javed will be in trouble. According to sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the board may make some tough decisions after the tournament. This source said that Aaqib may be relieved of his responsibility after the Champions Trophy. The source said, obviously there is disappointment with the team's performance in the Champions Trophy. The board has not yet decided whether the team will have separate coaches for limited overs and red ball. But after the poor performance in the Champions Trophy, the current support staff is sure to be removed. The way the board has changed coaches and selectors since last year, it is challenging to find other candidates for these posts.
Kirsten-Gillespie had left the post.
PCB President Mohsin Naqvi had made Aaqib the interim coach of the limited-overs team after Gary Kirsten left the post last year. After this, Aaqib was also given the responsibility of the red ball team for the Test series against South Africa and West Indies because Test coach Jason Gillespie had also left his post. Pakistan are scheduled to tour New Zealand for a five-ODI and three-match T20 series from March 16 to April 5, so the board will have to appoint a permanent coach soon.
