Priyanka Chopra was recently seen dancing and participating in every ritual at her brother Siddharth Chopra's wedding. Neelam Upadhyay has now entered Priyanka Chopra's family as her sister-in-law. But within just 3 days of the wedding, Neelam Upadhyay faced a big problem. Neelam has told about the skin allergy she suffered after her Haldi ceremony on Instagram. She says that this reaction seen on the skin can be due to staying in the sun after applying turmeric.

Neelam shared this post in her Instagram story, in which she wrote, 'What is happening? I think this is a reaction to the turmeric paste coming in contact with the sun. However, I did a patch test a few days before the Haldi ceremony and everything was fine.' She shared a picture of the allergy seen on her neck and shoulder.
Tips for Safely Using Haldi on Your Skin
Neelam also did a patch test of turmeric before marriage.
Effect of turmeric and sunlight
Turmeric contains a bioactive compound called curcumin, which is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. While turmeric is used on the skin for its brightening and healing effects, it can sometimes cause photosensitivity, making the skin more sensitive to the sun's rays. Some individuals may experience increased sensitivity to UV rays, causing skin redness, irritation, or mild sunburn. Sometimes, exposure to the sun after applying turmeric can also cause dark spots, especially in individuals with sensitive or melanin-rich skin.

How to use turmeric safely on the skin?
- It is very important to do a patch test before applying turmeric on the skin. You can do a patch test on the skin behind the ear or the hand and wait for 24 hours to ensure that there is no reaction or allergy.
- To avoid sunlight, apply turmeric masks or treatments at night.
- If using turmeric during the day, always apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or more to avoid any negative reactions.
- Turmeric can be mixed with yogurt, honey or aloe vera to reduce its effect and also reduce irritation.
