It can be prepared at home in just 15 minutes, and believe us, its crunch and flavor will make you forget all about store-bought junk food. So, get ready to munch away—completely guilt-free!

**Moong Dal Popcorn Recipe**
**Ingredients:**
Yellow Moong Dal: ½ cup
Oil: 1-2 tablespoons (for shallow frying)
Water: For soaking the dal
Spices: Salt (to taste), ½ teaspoon Chaat Masala or Roasted Cumin Powder, and Red Chili Powder.

**Easy Preparation Method (Step-by-Step):**

**1. Soak the Dal:**
First, thoroughly wash the Moong Dal and soak it in sufficient water for 6-8 hours, or preferably overnight. Well-soaked dal ‘pops’ better and turns out crispier.

**2. Drying is Essential:**
Drain all the water from the soaked dal and spread it out on a clean cloth or paper towel. Let it air-dry for 30-40 minutes until the surface moisture has completely evaporated. Drying the dal ensures that it does not splatter or pop violently when added to the hot oil.

**3. Heat the Pan:**
Heat the oil in a heavy-bottomed pan or *kadhai* over medium heat. To check if the oil is ready, drop a single grain of dal into it; if it floats to the surface immediately, the oil is ready for frying.

4. How to Make the Popcorn:
Add a small amount of the soaked lentils to hot oil and immediately cover the pan with a lid. The lentils will begin to puff up, much like popcorn. Gently shake the pan continuously to ensure even cooking.

5. Tempering and Serving:
Once the popping sounds subside, turn off the heat and remove the lentils from the pan. Immediately sprinkle salt and spices over the hot lentils so that they adhere well.
Moong Dal Popcorn is best enjoyed when eaten piping hot and fresh. You can enjoy it alongside your evening tea or as a movie-time snack. Although it is best consumed fresh, you can also store it in an airtight container for up to one day.
