Hirani confirmed that he and his writing team are working on a story that could bring the characters back. '3 Idiots' starred Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi.

Hirani clarified that the project is still in the writing stage and there is no guarantee it will ever be made. He said, "We will move forward only when the writing is right. We will make it only if everything falls into place; otherwise, we won't. This is a film that people have loved immensely. If we cannot match that level, there is no point."
