Are you also making these 4 mistakes on Indira Ekadashi? You could lose the blessings of your ancestors..

According to the Vedic calendar, Indira Ekadashi is being observed today, October 6th. Indira Ekadashi, which falls during the *Krishna Paksha* (waning phase of the moon) of the *Ashwin* month, holds special significance. Since it occurs during *Pitru Paksha* (the fortnight dedicated to ancestors), the day is primarily dedicated to seeking peace for one's ancestors. It is customary to worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this occasion.

On this day, people perform rituals such as *Tarpan* and *Pind Daan* to appease their ancestors. However, committing certain mistakes can deprive you of the full benefits of the worship and may even displease your ancestors. In this article, we outline the actions that should be avoided on Indira Ekadashi.

**Consuming *Tamasic* Food**

People observe fasts on Ekadashi to please Lord Vishnu. Consuming *Tamasic* food (foods considered to induce lethargy or agitation, such as garlic and onions) on this day prevents one from reaping the spiritual rewards of worshipping Lord Vishnu or receiving the blessings of ancestors. You should strictly avoid including garlic, onions, and other *Tamasic* items in your diet on this day.

**Giving in to Excessive Anger**

The day of Indira Ekadashi is considered especially auspicious for worshipping Lord Vishnu. Worshipping the Divine with devotion and expressing gratitude towards ancestors on this day ensures their continued grace in your life.

Conversely, if you get angry at someone without cause or use abusive language, your worship is not considered acceptable. You should refrain from getting angry at anyone on this day.

**Mistreating the Elderly**

It is believed that ancestors become most displeased when the elders of the household are not respected. On Indira Ekadashi, one should take care not to trouble or mistreat any elderly person, as doing so could invite *Pitru Dosh* (ancestral affliction) upon the household. You should treat everyone with kindness and respect on this day.

Failing to Perform Tarpan for Ancestors
If, for any reason, you do not perform *Tarpan* in the name of your ancestors on Indira Ekadashi, they may become displeased, and *Pitra Dosh* (ancestral affliction) could affect your household. You must perform *Tarpan*, *Pind Daan*, and acts of charity in the name of your ancestors on this day.

If you commit any of the mistakes mentioned here on Indira Ekadashi, you will be deprived of your ancestors' blessings.
