Cold Drinks: Why Don't Companies Fill Cold Drink Bottles to the Brim? Find Out the Reason..

Cold Drink Bottles: It is the summer season, and it is simply impossible to talk about summer without mentioning cold drink bottles. However, doctors generally advise against consuming them. Amidst all this, when you purchase a bottle of cold drink from a store, you may have noticed that it does not appear to be filled to the brim.

In reality, cold drink bottles are not filled; a fact that leads many people to believe that the companies deliberately provide less product. But is this true? What, exactly, is the reason behind the lower liquid level in a cold drink bottle? Let's try to find out...

Why aren't cold drink bottles filled?

You have likely observed that cold drink bottles are not filled to the very top.
If you are under the impression that companies do this simply to shortchange the customer, that assumption is incorrect.
In fact, there is a completely different reason behind it.

It is important to note that during the packaging process, cold drinks are chilled to a temperature below standard room temperature.
Once they have cooled down, these soft drinks are bottled and sealed.
Subsequently, these bottles are subjected to varying temperatures—at times sitting in direct sunlight, and at other times, being exposed to different ambient conditions.

As a result, the temperature of the liquid inside the bottle begins to rise.
Furthermore, soft drinks contain dissolved carbon dioxide gas.
Consequently, as the bottle's internal temperature increases, the liquid—or the cold drink itself—expands.
It is crucial to understand that this expansion occurs due to the rise in temperature or the heat.
For this very reason, companies do not fill cold drink bottles to their absolute capacity.

There is also another reason for not filling bottles to the brim.

Many bottles containing various liquid products—such as water, body wash, shampoo, etc.—are commonly found.

Just like cold drink bottles, the upper section of these containers is also left empty; that is to say, the bottles are not filled to the very top.

This practice is adopted to ensure that the contents do not spill out of the bottles during transportation and delivery.
