Janmashtami is considered one of the most significant festivals in Hinduism. It marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. This year, the festival will be celebrated on September 4th. On this day, devotees worship Lord Krishna at night and offer Him special *bhog* (ritual food offerings).

During the worship, items that Lord Krishna loves are offered to please 'Laddu Gopal' and seek His blessings. Let us explore some dishes suitable for offering to Lord Krishna on Janmashtami.
**Makhan-Mishri (Butter and Rock Sugar)**
*Makhan-Mishri* is considered Lord Krishna's favorite offering. It is believed that He was extremely fond of butter. Therefore, on Janmashtami, white butter and rock sugar (*mishri*) are offered to Him. You can extract butter from milk at home, mix it with rock sugar, and offer it to Lord Krishna.
**Panchamrit**
*Panchamrit* is also offered to 'Kanha' (Lord Krishna) on Janmashtami. It is prepared by combining five ingredients: milk, curd (yogurt), *desi ghee* (clarified butter), honey, and sugar. These ingredients are considered highly sacred in Hinduism. Additionally, a *Tulsi* (holy basil) leaf is invariably added to the mixture when making the offering.
**Dhaniya Panjiri (Coriander Seed Confection)**
*Dhaniya Panjiri* is considered a primary *prasad* (sacred offering) during the Janmashtami fast. It is prepared by grinding whole coriander seeds and roasting them in pure *desi ghee*. Ingredients such as *makhana* (fox nuts), cashews, almonds, and powdered rock sugar or *boora* (fine powdered sugar) are mixed in to complete the *panjiri*.
**Makhana Kheer (Fox Nut Pudding)**
A *kheer* (pudding) made from milk and *makhana* is also offered to Lord Krishna. The *makhana* is lightly roasted in *desi ghee* and then cooked in milk over a low flame. Saffron, cardamom powder, and dry fruits are added to the mixture. It is cooked slowly until thickened, resulting in a delicious *prasad*.

**Malpua**
Among sweet delicacies, *Malpua* is also offered to Lord Krishna. Malpua, prepared from a batter of refined flour, milk, and fennel seeds, is fried in *desi ghee* and then soaked in sugar syrup. It is also included among the *56 Bhog* (fifty-six ritual offerings) dedicated to Lord Shri Krishna. You can also prepare *rabri* (thickened sweetened milk) to serve with it, as it pairs wonderfully with Malpua.
