Most of us start our mornings with a cup of tea or coffee. The caffeine content is a great way to ward off sleepiness and boost productivity. We often drink several cups of tea or coffee throughout the day without thinking.

Excessive caffeine intake can be detrimental to health. Therefore, it's important to understand the safe amount of caffeine intake per day and what signals the body gives when it's too high. Let's find out.
How much caffeine is safe per day?
According to the FDA, adults should not consume more than 400 mg of caffeine, or 2 to 3 cups, per day. Consuming more increases the risk of overdose. Teenagers should not consume more than 100 mg of caffeine. Breastfeeding women should avoid excessive caffeine intake. Pregnant women should consider drinking less than 200 mg of tea or coffee per day, as it's not yet clear what effects it will have on the baby.
Caffeine affects everyone's body differently. Some people may feel jittery even after a small amount of tea or coffee, especially if they are taking other medications. Therefore, it's best to consult a doctor to determine the right amount of caffeine for your health.
