In Sanatan tradition, the water offered to Lord Shiva is considered akin to *Amrit* (nectar), rather than merely a part of the ritual. The water that flows out from the *Shivling* via the *Jaleri* (drainage channel) is known as *Neer*. It is believed that consuming this *Neer* helps alleviate various afflictions and ailments. Furthermore, the *Belpatra* (wood apple leaves) offered to the *Shivling* are also considered highly beneficial. Let us explore the specific benefits of *Neer* and *Belpatra*. Mahant Kameshwaranand Vedantacharya of the Ballabhgarh Udasin Sadhu Ashram explains that Lord Shiva is fond of the flow of water; offering a vessel of water is the simplest way to please Mahadev. Individuals with a weak Moon in their horoscope should specifically offer water to the *Shivling* on Mondays. Mahant Kameshwaranand Vedantacharya notes that a favorable Moon leads to positive outcomes in various aspects of life.

Mahant Kameshwaranand Vedantacharya explains that if the *Shivling* is installed on an elevated platform, one should offer water while standing or bending forward. If the *Shivling* is situated at ground level, one should sit cross-legged while offering the water. He emphasizes that performing the *Jalabhishek* (ritual bathing with water) according to prescribed rites yields special spiritual rewards. Consuming the *Neer* that flows out after being offered to the *Shivling* is said to cleanse one of sins committed through body, speech, and mind. Mahant Kameshwaranand Vedantacharya adds that consuming this *Neer* also provides relief from various diseases.
**Relief from Blood Pressure and Diabetes**
According to Mahant Kameshwaranand Vedantacharya, applying the water offered to Lord Shiva on one's forehead or consuming it infuses the body with positive energy. Consuming the *Belpatra* offered to the *Shivling* is also considered beneficial; it is believed to help alleviate conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Offering *Belpatra* to Lord Shiva is said to destroy sins accumulated over many lifetimes, while consuming the water offered to Him purifies the intellect. These benefits are also mentioned in the *Shiv Mahapuran* and other religious scriptures. Worshipping Lord Shiva brings wealth, abundance, and prosperity.

**A practice that enhances spiritual significance**
Mahant Kameshwaranand Vedantacharya explains that the significance of the offering is greatly enhanced if water is poured over the Shivling from a vessel containing *Kusha* grass. Consuming such water is considered exceptionally beneficial—akin to a panacea. Consuming the sacred water (*Charanamrit*) obtained after the ritual bathing (*Abhishek*) of the deity with milk, *Panchamrit*, or water dispels the fear of untimely death and paves the way for salvation (*Moksha*). Mahant Kameshwaranand Vedantacharya advises that everyone should offer a vessel of water to Lord Shiva daily with devotion and faith.
