Flowers hold special significance in worship. Offering fresh, fragrant flowers to the deity is considered a symbol of reverence and devotion. However, many people are unsure about what to do with these flowers once the worship concludes. Often, people simply throw them into the trash or discard them haphazardly. According to religious beliefs, this is considered inappropriate; furthermore, it is not an environmentally sound practice.

Religiously, flowers offered to the deity are known as *Nirmalya*. They are not viewed as ordinary waste because they have been part of the act of worship; therefore, it is recommended that they be disposed of respectfully or repurposed. Practices regarding this may vary across different regions and traditions.
**Avoid throwing them in the trash**
For the sake of convenience, many people toss worship flowers directly into the dustbin. From a religious perspective, this is deemed improper. Moreover, if these flowers mix with plastic or other refuse, they cannot be utilized as organic waste. Consequently, it is best to keep them separate from general household waste.
**Ways to repurpose the flowers**
If you have a garden at home, you can bury the flowers in the soil to create compost. Petals from certain flowers can be dried and used to make potpourri, natural dyes, or incense sticks (*dhoop*). Repurposing flowers in this manner is also considered beneficial for the environment.

**Immersion in flowing water is not always the right choice**
While there has traditionally been a practice of immersing worship flowers in rivers or ponds, many experts today advise against it due to environmental concerns. Discharging flowers—along with associated plastic, cloth, or other ritual materials—into the water can increase pollution. Therefore, if immersion is chosen, it is essential to consider local regulations and environmental impact.
