eShram Card Benefits & Registration: Operated by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, the e-Shram portal provides a Universal Account Number (UAN) to workers in the unorganized sector across the country. This unique 12-digit number serves as your digital identity, facilitating the delivery of benefits from various social security and welfare schemes offered by central and state governments in an integrated manner.

If you are a street vendor, agricultural laborer, domestic worker, or gig worker, the e-Shram card is nothing short of a boon for you. This card grants access to benefits such as free accident insurance of ₹2 lakh, a monthly pension of ₹3,000 after the age of 60, and direct advantages from schemes like Ayushman Bharat.
e-Shram Card is Created Free of Cost
The e-Shram card service is completely free. The government does not charge any annual fee or premium to issue or maintain the card's validity. Creating an account on the e-Shram portal costs nothing. If you visit a CSC center to get the card printed, the vendor may charge a nominal fee solely for the printing service. The government bears the entire cost of the accident cover (up to ₹2 lakh) associated with the card; workers do not have to pay anything out of their own pockets for this.
Nominal Premium Required for Pension Scheme
Under this card, if one opts for the pension scheme providing ₹3,000 per month after the age of 60, a monthly contribution ranging from ₹55 to ₹200 is required, depending on the individual's age. This contribution applies only to the pension scheme; there is no fee for the e-Shram card itself. Details regarding the four key benefits available to e-Shram cardholders are provided below.
Free Accident Insurance Cover
Upon registering for the e-Shram card, workers are automatically enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). The government pays the premium for the first year. In the event of accidental death or permanent disability, e-Shram cardholders are provided with a sum of ₹2 lakh. Meanwhile, financial assistance of ₹1 lakh is provided in cases of partial or temporary disability.
**Monthly Pension of ₹3,000**
The e-Shram portal is linked with the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PMSYM) pension scheme. Under this scheme, eligible registered workers aged 18–40 years receive a minimum monthly pension of ₹3,000 upon attaining the age of 60. The government contributes an amount equal to the worker's monthly contribution into their pension account. If the primary beneficiary passes away, their spouse continues to receive 50% of the pension amount as a family pension.
**One-Stop Solution for Government Schemes**
The e-Shram UAN serves as an eligibility passport for major central welfare programs, eliminating the need to apply repeatedly for different schemes.
**Employment and Training:** Direct links to the National Career Service (NCS) portal for job searches and the Skill India Digital portal for vocational training. **Health Assistance:** Easy access to free medical treatment under Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY). **Housing and Food:** Priority in affordable housing schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and access to food security anywhere in the country via the 'One Nation One Ration Card' initiative.
**Direct Benefit Transfer**
During national emergencies, pandemics, or public crises, the e-Shram database serves as an official registry for delivering targeted relief. The government transfers financial packages directly to the worker's Aadhaar-linked bank account using Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), thereby eliminating the role of middlemen.
**Eligibility Criteria for e-Shram Card**
**Targeted Workers:** Must be a worker in the unorganized sector (e.g., street vendors, agricultural laborers, domestic workers, etc.). **Age Limit:** Must be between 16 and 59 years of age. Meanwhile, the age limit for the PMSYM pension scheme is 18 to 40 years. Taxpayer status: Applicants must not be income taxpayers. Fund restrictions: Applicants must not be members of EPFO or ESIC.
